Don't Panic Presents...
CREATIVE RISK Q&A
We love taking creative risks just as much as we love hearing from those who take risks. This week, we invited British Barrister Jolyon Maugham to join us at The Ned, London, with top comedian and activist Heydon Prowse.
A little bit about the chap: Jolyon Maugham is an intellectual powerhouse. He’s written for or appeared in the Financial Times, the Guardian, the Times, Wall Street Journal, Telegraph, BBC, ITV and Channel 4. Jolyon’s popular blog waitingfortax.com and his brainchild, the Good Law Project, strive to engage the public in legal debates. With the Good Law Project funding and holding the Government to account through legal challenges.
“We can’t rest on our laurels – there’s much more left to do.”
The GLP tagline says it all. This guy means business. On Monday 18th March, Heydon Prowse grilled Maugham with a variety of enlightening and curious questions about what it requires to be one of the country’s leading barristers. People don’t automatically think of tax law as a risky or high adrenaline job. However if you take a quick look at Maugham’s agenda and you might just change your mind. He’s taking on Uber for breakfast, Brexit for elevenses, social injustice for lunch and a round of unpaid internship court cases for dinner… you don’t want to know what he’s got planned for supper. Maugham has a lot on his plate, but he’s not frazzled by what his opposition think. Despite many a Brexiteer being eager to label Maugham a ‘liberal-elite’, the barrister is a renowned saviour for Remainers. Maugham fearlessly brought a case to the European Court of Justice to argue that Article 50 was revocable and won.
He’s not afraid to bite back at injustice.
Maugham aims to help the public feel they can engage with and access political and social law as much as possible. We’re very grateful for both Maugham and Prowse having joined us in this intimate setting at The Ned. They inspired us to continue to stand up for what we believe in. Watch this space for more upcoming events with the risk-takers and game-changers of the century.
